USB-C describes a connector shape, not a guaranteed charging speed or feature set. Two cables can look alike while one handles basic charging and the other carries high-power charging, fast data and video. Reading the device and accessory specifications prevents slow charging and unnecessary replacements.

Match charger output to the device
Check the wattage and charging protocol recommended by the device maker. A higher-wattage USB Power Delivery charger is generally able to negotiate a safe level with compatible devices, but proprietary fast-charging modes may need a specific charger and cable.
The cable is part of the system
For higher power levels, use a cable rated for the required wattage. If you need external displays or rapid file transfers, also check the supported data speed and video standard. A charging-only cable will not become a display cable because the connectors fit.
- Buy certified accessories from traceable brands or retailers.
- Avoid damaged plugs, loose connectors and sharply bent cables.
- Check shared charger power allocation when several ports are used.
- Label cables with special power or display capabilities.
Build a smaller, safer kit
One well-specified multi-port charger can replace several adapters for travel, provided its total and per-port output match your devices. Keep one dependable spare cable and periodically inspect both cable ends for heat damage or wear.
